Friends to the Elderly
Providing meaningful relationships to our treasured elderly.
Providing meaningful relationships to our treasured elderly.
Whether living alone or in a nursing home, so many elderly lack meaningful relationships.
Our hearts are driven by filling the void in this part of our community. We want to help make the end stages of life more fulfilling.
Our organization matches volunteers with elderly individuals to provide meaningful, lasting relationships. The only requirement and service provided by our volunteers is time. Even as little as an hour a week can make a difference.
Make a difference. Be a friend. Help make a life better towards the end.
The founder and CEO of our organization, Lindsey Peterson, spent several years attending to her beloved grandmother prior to the end of her life. During those years she saw a need. She saw the lives of those who spent their youth caring for others that are often forgotten and isolated.
After her grandmother's passing in July 2016, she continued visiting her grandmother's friend at the nursing home and has since developed several other elderly friendships. She also spent months visiting a close friend in the nursing home and through hospice, discovering a large number of people spending their last days of life alone or with strangers. Her heart for suffering and a strong calling from God led her to the idea of finding a way to multiply these important relationships so desperately needed in our elderly community.
"I can't explain how clear this calling was. It was like my purpose in life became so clear." - Lindsey Peterson
Lindsey shared her vision as soon as it came to her mind and the reaction and support from many others willing to step into this ministry has been great. She and her children have been visiting the elderly regularly since they were born and she hopes they will benefit from a young life of serving this community that will have a ripple effect on future generations to come.
"My elderly friends have given me so much knowledge, love, and a sense of purpose in the challenged world we live in." - Lindsey Peterson
